Virginia is for Drivers
This morning we packed up and left downtown Asheville. We headed southeast about 15 minutes to Fairview NC, where my parents built a house in the Fairview Forest
community and lived in it in the 90's. We drove up the winding road and got a few views of the house, and admired the view,
but the trees and foliage have grown up very high since I was last there.
We drove back down and got on the road. Sarah drove a part of the Blue Ridge Parkway,
and then we went over the mountain out of NC and into Tennessee, with some unusual sights on the way.
Next up was the Bristol Caverns.
We'd never been to these caverns, which seem to be a family run business. Our guide was very informative about the history of the Caverns and took us through down the 180 foot drop to the cavern floor and subterranean river.

After the caverns we got back on I-81 and started the looong ride through the Blue Ridge mountains to Staunton. We checked in the Best Western and went downtown to the Depot Grille,
where we had enjoyed a great meal last summer. It was wonderful again. Set in an old train station off the main roads, the place has great food and drinks and was very busy for late on a Monday night. We enjoyed our visit and will return again! Now its time to rest up for our busy day at Monticello, Harper's Ferry, and Gettysburg tomorrow. Check back soon!
